the reason I've been posting so much about kitchens, tiles, etc. recently is because rich and I just bought this beach house! as you can see the kitchen leaves much to be desired, but the location is wonderful...less than a block from the ocean. It's pretty much a blank canvas and has a lot of potential to be really beautiful.
underneath the carpets are mostly good oak floors. we plan to refinish these and patch in more wood planks so that there is wood throughout the entire house. we are going to redo the entire kitchen to have white cabinets and wood counters. the small bathroom in the master bedroom has to be completely redone, and we're still working on the plan for that. the other bathrooms will be redone later. there's lots of landscaping and painting to do too, of course.
here are more pictures of the house. I'm excited to start posting the "after" photos once we do renovations. the next couple months are going to be quite busy!

I read about hakatai glass tiles on apartment therapy. I've been thinking they would look great in the smaller bathroom in our new house. maybe iridescent white, pale blue, or pale green?

another lovely white kitchen. I love the mixture of white and oak.
...and a crazy pink kitchen which I LOVE but wouldn't actually do. :) I think the pink cabinets would look great in white too. I love the clean look of the cabinets, the round holes for drawer pulls, and the mix of open shelves and cabinets.

more white kitchens from some other japanese books that are similar to the jeu de paume series. I think the white appliances look nice, and the marble countertops with white cabinets are beautiful too. I also really like those textured glass doors that open upwards in the bottom photo.

white kitchen inspiration
I'm very inspired by both of these kitchens. Both have white glossy cabinets, wooden countertops, and white tile backsplash. The top one has floors similar to what mine are going to be like and a marble countertop on the island, which looks very nice. I love on the bottom one how the dark wood continues down the sides of the counters. Both of these use stainless steel appliances but I'm considering going with white ones.
