dining tables

some beautiful photos I had hanging around on my hard drive:

new shower tile

the bathroom tile is almost done. it looks great, and I am soooo happy. this is the scary bathroom before:

now:

we are going to get a frameless glass shower door to keep the bathroom feeling as spacious as possible.

kitchen islands

We are trying to decide how to do our kitchen island. We have a thick marble slab on ikea glossy white abstrakt cabinets. I want to make sure the marble has enough support. I really like how the sides of these islands extend to the edge of the overhang on the countertop:

Or maybe we could get simple corbels:

Or we could try keep the overhang clean-looking:

sputnik lamps

my last post got me all interested in reproduction sputnik lamps. they are cool! these ones are all from inmod.

hibbard's retro home

a very cool home tour of a house in arizona. I love the green sofas and the mid century furniture. it's also really interesting how they used pebble floors throughout the house and in some places outside. this house is great inspiration!

homegaard pendant lights

I was just admiring the interesting lighting that holmegaard makes. I bought two vintage holmegaard pendants on ebay for the new house, which I'm really excited about.

This chocolate brown one is really large and is going to go above the dining room table. We ended up getting the largest of the kathleen hills single pendant lights to use over our island, and I think they will all look great together.

I'm not sure where I can use this light, but maybe we can put it at the end of the hallway. I really really love the shape and the purple color of this one.

this one has birch on the outside and is from generate.

this one is nice and simple from the moma store.

hansen living bathrooms

hansen living also makes wash stands for the bathroom. I like how simple and natural-looking they are.

live wire farm hooks

it would be nice to hang these hooks from live wire farm near the front door.

bantam sofa and chair

I keep talking about my couch, but I haven't actually shown what it looks like. I own this bantam 2-seater in sage green from DWR. I love it, but I agree with Rich that it is too small. I would have bought the 3-seater, but there was no way it was going to fit into my old house.

I also have the matching armchair.

Rich really wants to get a bigger couch. I think it would be good to sell my 2-seater bantam couch and get the 3-seater one. Stylish couches are usually really really expensive, and the bantam ones are sort of reasonably priced. I think DWR actually raised the prices on these since when I purchased mine. Rich still thinks that the 3-seater is going to be too small, and I'm worried that he wants some sort of leather battleship for the house. I haven't found anything else that seems good yet, but I'll keep looking. Maybe if Rich gets his eames lounge chair, he will be more agreeable to the larger bantam sofa. I actually like the bantam couches and chairs much better than more expensive couches and chairs. I love the texture and color of the sage fabric, and the wooden legs are so cute-looking.

brown eames lounge chair

rich keeps complaining that my couch is too small, and he wants to get something more comfy for the new house. I haven't found any good couches yet, but rich wants to get a black eames lounge chair. rich and I were hoping for the house to feel "beachy", but a black eames lounge chair isn't quite beachy. :P

I think a good compromise would be a brown eames chair. they actually come in a bunch of different browns ranging from tan to a dark chocolate brown. I think brown was also the orginal color for the eames lounge. we don't have a single piece of black furniture or anything really, so brown would really work much better. it would look nice with the danish furniture I have too.

chesapeake bay modern retreat

photos of a beautiful house in chesapeake bay from the new york times.

I think those are the exact same pendants over the kitchen island that I was considering for over our island. They look really great, but I'm happy with the ones we finally picked out from kathleen hills.

finel heart coffee pot and bowl

this pattern is so cute. I actually have one of the heart enamel bowls (mine is in better shape though), and I love it.

russel wright queen anne's lace

I was browsing vintage dishes on the web. I've never seen these mikasa duplex dishes before. The shapes are great. I would love to have some of these in pink and brown.
